Daz Dillinger's career is deeply tied to Snoop Dogg and the Death Row Records family. As cousins by blood, they grew up together in Long Beach, California. Daz began his music career at age 19 when he signed to Death Row Records and learned production from Dr. Dre. He contributed rapping and production to Snoop's debut *Doggystyle* (1993). While Daz received co-production credits on only two tracks—"Serial Killa" and "For All My Niggaz & Bitches"—he maintains he provided uncredited production for large portions of the album. Death Row CEO Suge Knight remarked that "Daz did pretty much the whole album [*Doggystyle*]."

After Dr. Dre left Death Row in March 1996 and Tupac was murdered later that year, many artists including Snoop Dogg departed the label. Snoop Dogg did not leave Death Row until 1998, and Daz and Kurupt were not the only platinum-selling artists remaining on the roster. Daz released his debut solo album *Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back* through Death Row in March 1998 before leaving the label later that year. Daz and Kurupt reunited in 2001 for a second collaborative album, *Dillinger & Young Gotti*, released under the name DPG because Death Row still owned the name "Tha Dogg Pound." After a period of tension when Kurupt re-signed with Death Row, the two reconciled at a West Coast unity event hosted by Snoop Dogg in 2005.
